METALLICA has just unveiled “Too Far Gone? (Live From MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ – August 6, 2023),” a digital single that captures the debut performance of the standout track from “72 Seasons” during their “M72” tour. This momentous performance took place during the tour’s North American opening weekend, delighting around 80,000 fans on its second night. Praised for its “roaring melody” by the OC Register in their review of METALLICA’s record-breaking weekend at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, “Too Far Gone?” has swiftly become a key part of the “M72” “No Repeat Weekend” setlist.
Furthermore, the original studio version of “Too Far Gone?” has been reimagined as a music video directed by Coan “Buddy” Nichols, known for his work on projects such as “The Original Skateboarder,” “The Body Corporate,” “Deathbowl To Downtown,” and “Love Letters To Skateboarding.” In Nichols’s rendition, “Too Far Gone?” serves as the soundtrack to intense METALLICA live performance footage, interspersed with action shots featuring professional skateboarder Felipe Nunes. The energy levels of these two worlds blend seamlessly, resulting in a whirlwind of electrifying intensity. The video also features a cameo appearance by Tony Hawk, who premiered the video.
METALLICA wrapped up the initial North American leg of the “M72” world tour on September 9th in Glendale, Arizona. The band is set to headline Power Trip at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, on October 8th before continuing the “M72” tour with its next “No Repeat Weekend” scheduled for November 3rd and 5th at the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
Presented worldwide by Liquid Death and Blackened American Whiskey (in North America only) and promoted by Live Nation, the “M72” tour encompasses 46 shows and commenced in Amsterdam on April 27. The tour spans various locations across Europe and North America, with performances scheduled through 2024. Each “No Repeat Weekend” on “M72” boasts two entirely distinct setlists and supporting acts. The tour introduces a new in-the-round stage design that places the renowned METALLICA Snake Pit at the center stage, along with the “I Disappear” full-tour pass and discounted tickets for fans under 16 years of age. Notable opening acts for the tour include PANTERA, MAMMOTH WVH, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, ICE NINE KILLS, ARCHITECTS, VOLBEAT, and GRETA VAN FLEET.
“Too Far Gone?” is featured on METALLICA’s latest album, “72 Seasons,” which made an impressive debut by selling 146,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during its first week, securing the No. 2 position on the Billboard 200 chart. This album marked the band’s 12th Top 10-charting album, with eight of them reaching the top two.
It’s worth noting that “72 Seasons” achieved the most significant week for any rock or hard rock album since TOOL’s “Fear Inoculum” arrived in September 2019, with 270,000 equivalent album units.
